“Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.” (Psalms 119:152)
Everyone today seems to be doing a DNA test to find out where they are from or what their background is. It is as if people need assurance that their eye color or their skin color comes from somewhere way, way back in time. It is as if with the knowledge of heritage people feel they have a deeper meaning to to their life.
I am not balking at this, nor do I condemn it. I am just fascinated at the multitude of commercials I see on the television that show people all excited that they found out they are 1% Irish or 2% Indonesian. If you have done a similar test, I think it is cool. I hope you found out some interesting results.
My husband has a test that his mom bought him, and I suppose if he ever gets around to doing it, we will impatiently wait for the results like all the rest of the masses. I, for one, will forgo the “where am I from”. It simply does not matter to me. I figure I am a mixed bag of a whole bunch of flavors, so who really cares. I am Sheri. That’s enough for me. I don’t feel the need to be deciphered.
One thing in my life that I wouldn’t ever even have to test for it’s Origen is the Word of God. It is timeless. It was before the world became a mixed up mess and it will be around after the world ceases to exist. It is forever.
“LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” (Psalms 119:89)
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:23-25)
The psalmist didn’t even have a complete copy of the Bible when he was inspired to pen verse 152. But he had confidence in It and Its faithfulness to all generations.
When everything in your life begins to fall apart and absolutely nothing makes sense anymore, I hope you will remember todays post. I hope that you will take confidence in the knowledge that you can always rely on anything that is built on the foundation of the Scripture. Relationships, jobs, churches and friends may crumble. You may think you have hit rock bottom, but guess what? The Rock you rely on is Jesus Christ, the Word. He will never fail you.
If you need a shield, He will shield you. If you need discipline, He will reprove you. If you need cared for, He will care for you. No matter what the situation you may encounter, you will find Him faithful and True.
Until Next Time, Lord willing,
