Day 214

“Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.”  (Psalms 119:138)

Time and time again I have heard from one person or another that God is not fair.  Sadly, I have thought it myself on occasion as well.  But it is a thought and idea we should ALWAYS reject.

God is fair because God is just.

We looked at some Scripture yesterday to remind ourselves about this attribute of God.  And today, let’s remind ourselves to put confidence in His Word!

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”  (2 Timothy 3:16)

When we place confidence in God’s Word, it shores up the weak spots in our thinking where the devil wants to creep in and make us question God and His teaching.

Recently I was at a friends house and we made kabobs to grill.  We took the time to chop the ingredients and then carefully skewer them.  When we were finished, we had several dozen tasty looking kabobs to grill.  We laid them on big cookie sheets and headed out onto my friend’s deck to fire up the grill.  I was excited and walked out without paying attention and I felt the wood beneath my foot give way a little.  My friend warned me to be careful where I stepped because there were some weak spots and some holes where the wood has rotted and wouldn’t be able to bear my weight.

Here I was holding these perfectly put together kabobs, but they almost ended up on the ground….all because I wasn’t on sure footing.

You and I can have good intentions.  You and I can go to church, teach a SS class and sing in the choir, but if we are not reading and developing our thoughts from God’s Word, we are going to be on weak footing when it comes to our view on sin.

Mark and I drove through the West Village in NYC recently and there were MANY people who have adopted a lifestyle that most Christians would balk at and we quote verses about them being an abomination.  But I am afraid we have forgotten these verses:

“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”  (Proverbs 6:16-19)

God hates when we tell a falsehood.  God hates it when we shade the truth in order to make us or our family look better.  God hates it when we LIE.  Just as much as He hates other sins.

God is Righteous.  His Word is there to instruct us IN Righteousness.  We cannot pick and choose what we want to follow.  Are we on solid ground with our thinking?  Or are we letting the world dictate to us what is right and wrong?

It’s okay to examine your life for weak spots.  You know that, right?  It’s called maintenance and it is good for us to carefully examine our lives and make sure we are basing them and living them according to the Word of God and nothing else.

Dwell in God, His Righteousness and watch your footing!

Until Next Time, Lord willing,
