Day 193

“Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.”  Psalms 119:117

The first thing I think of when I read this verse is that the only way I am safe is if I am wholly depending on God.  There is a natural fear that overcomes me when I think about how scary life would be without the Lord.

I remember one time a couple of years ago in Brazil that our family drove to the Coast with some friends from Lages.  They had two older girls that were friends with my girls and we spend a day together enjoying the city and eating good food.  Well, we decided to drive to the beach because my boys wanted to see what the waves were like.  We all got out by the water and decided we would get in, fully clothed, to ride a wave. Our friends stood there looking at us like we were crazy!

The water was chilly, but all six of us walked into the waves.  We were laughing and cutting up before we realized there was a strong under current.  Mark shouted at us to form a human chain.  We clasped each other’s hands and made our way back to the shore.  It was SCARY.

Those few moments of trying to get back to safety were absolutely no fun whatsoever.

I have been in similar spiritual situations….can I get a witness?

Again, NO fun whatsoever!

Sometimes we think we can coast along and not keep watch over our spiritual lives.  This is so dangerous because we are basically saying that we have the power to hold our own selves up and we don’t need the strong arm of God anymore.  That is pretty wicked thinking if you ask me!

Do yourself a favor today and make time to read the Bible.  Don’t let anything else rob you of the place you will find true safety.  Once you allow God’s Word to be predominant in your life, you will find it is a lot easier to trust Him.

Until Next Time, Lord willing,

Sheri
