Day 164

“Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.”  Psalms 119:88

If you have read any of my previous blogs in years gone by, you know that I have mentioned the water situation on our farm in Brazil.  It is one of the greatest aggravations to us as far as daily living goes, (but I suppose I should be thankful I don’t have to go down to a watering hole and keep an eye out for mean hippos.)

The farm we rented before we bought land and built our farmhouse was even worse because the owner would never fix the pipes that brought water down from the mountain spring to the house.  My children would walk the water lines almost every day, and sometimes several times a day, in order to find the break that was interrupting our water supply.  The main problem was that the owner had laid the cheapest pipe he could buy and they were always cracking and splitting open.  And instead of going to the store and purchasing the right kind of pipe, the owner would have us take strips of rubber and wrap them around the cracks.  This was always just a temporary fix and without fail the pipe would eventually burst back open causing my children or husband to, once again, climb the hills looking for a water break.

Christians have a tendency to want to talk about their problems and seek solutions through conversation rather than going to the Source for the Answer.  We seek the easiest “fix” to patch our lives together and then wonder why we come apart at the seams a short time later.

The verse we are studying today in Psalm 119 refers to the psalmist being quickened or revived and restored THROUGH the lovingkindenss of God.  He knew that there was no other repair out there that could help him outside of God.

Sure we can talk to a good friend or even our Pastor, but NOTHING in this world can or should replace the time we seek God through His Word.  Look at this next verse:

“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.”  1 John 5:9

God will witness of Himself through the Scripture in a way that NOTHING else can.  And really, that is why I have chosen this chapter right now in my life:  so I can go to the Source and DWELL in Him for the solutions I need to help me live this life.  I NEED Him.  Don’t you?

Follow God.  Dwell in His Word FIRST and don’t try to patch things up when you should be allowing God to change things around in your life.  He has all the answers and help you need.  Once He has restored you, then you will be a testimony to others of the benefits of following after God and His Word.

Until Next Time, Lord willing,

Sheri

Good illustration! It gets more difficult to lead people to the Word it seems. Too many distractions of this life right now, but if the break is bad enough, maybe, just maybe, they will come to Jesus’ Words rather than the world’s way.
