Day 145

“The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.”  Psalms 119:69

The whole idea behind this blog is dwelling in the presence of God.

It isn’t for us to dwell for a few minutes here and a few minutes there but constantly be listening to God’s voice in our lives, obeying His Word and letting It guide us in all that we do.

I started this small series on Psalm 119 because it is a way to keep myself focused during one of the busiest times of my life.  This is also a year of great transition for me, so I wanted to keep practical thinking at the forefront to remind me that the only way I will succeed will be by walking after the precepts of my God.

The precepts of God are not suggestions to consider, they are commands to be obeyed.

Let me lay some ground work here before we discuss today’s verse.

Consider these Scriptures with me:

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”  1 John 5:3

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.”  2 John 1:6

According to these Scriptures, when we obey God, we are SHOWING Him that we love Him.

So, what is the commandment of God?

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”  Matthew 22:37-40

“And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.”  1 John 3:23

“And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.”  2 John 1:5

“For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”  1 John 3:11

{SIDE NOTE} And I believe we should be VERY careful to observe the following passage as well:

Love not the world, neither the things that arein the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”  1 John 2:15

We can get twisted in what we believe if we don’t carefully study the Bible and compare it against Itself.  God will never contradict Himself.

The psalmist today has once again found himself the object of hate from his enemies as they lie about him.  It must have been strong enough for him to come to a decision place in his life because he points out their lying, but turns around and declares that he is going to keep God’s commandments with His WHOLE heart.

How hard it must have been for him to LOVE in a time when he was being lied about!

We all have been lied about at one point or another in our lives.  And usually our VERY first response is to defend ourselves.  Right?

But defending ourselves is putting the spotlight on who we think we are instead of placing the spotlight on WHO GOD actually is.  And He is love.

Next time someone, whether it be your ex, someone in the church, an old enemy or even a trusted friend, WHOEVER it may be, begins spreading lies about you, remember what God’s precepts are and run after them with your whole heart.

While others lied about Christ in the garden, Peter wanted to defend Him and he sliced off the ear of the soldier, remember?  But Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross IN LOVE for Peter AND those that lied about Him.

Let me be clear, Jesus didn’t become a coward.  He always spoke and taught the TRUTH.  But He also obeyed it by giving Himself as the Last Lamb to be slain.  What an act of LOVE!

Just thinking on how Jesus responded to accusations and lies makes me see myself for the sinner that I really am.  His love and obedience is what makes me complete (Colossians 2:10) in Him.

Oh that we would follow after God’s commandments with our whole hearts and leave off the pettiness that our flesh desires.

Sure the words and lies sting us and hurt our hearts, but in one moment to the next we can identify with Christ and choose to love as we turn our cheek.

And He has already given us the strength to do it.  Isn’t that the best thing ever?  God has helped us to obey Him if we will remember we are complete in Him and all the power we need to obey already lies within us.

Read God’s Word so you can find strength in the hard times and read It so that you are reminded that when the world hates you, your ex lies about you, your friend rises up against you – GOD IS FOR YOU.

“When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.”  Psalms 56:9

Until Next Time, Lord willing,
