Day 74

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”           Ephesians 3:14-21

If you are saved, you need to be reading the Bible.

Why?  Because the devil will not rest in his efforts to try and convince you that God doesn’t love you and you are not worthy to serve Him.

The Word of God is Truth and if you are reading the Bible and dwelling in It, you will find yourself rooted in It and able to recognize false thoughts issued from the enemy.  You will know for sure that God loves you and cares.  You will understand that when He has to teach you something, it is out of love of His child and never out of hate.  You will have a confidence in what He says and be willing to walk with Him without fear because it will be solid ground.

In Florida we have something known as “Tussocks” and “floating islands”.  Have you ever heard of them?  They can be found in lakes and waterways.  There are different types of plants that start growing together and form an area that look like solid ground, but it is actually just like a raft of plants floating on the water.  Sometimes they look like they are strong enough to support a person to walk on them.

My dad knew a man up in North Florida near the Georgia line that was in the cow business.  Dad had gone up there one day to see about something or another and he noticed the man walking with a limp and his calf looked kind of funny.  He found out that the man had been out trying to herd up some cattle and he accidentally stepped on a tussock.  His leg went through and a gator was underneath.  That old gator took a bite out of that man’s leg and left him with a reminder of his misstep for the rest of his life.

Sometimes we want a little softer sounding preaching to tickle our ears and make us feel better about ourselves and those around us, but let me tell you, that may look good to our flesh, but the enemy is just waiting over there to wound us.  He wants us out there where the ground isn’t rooted on something firm.  He wants us to build our lives on something shallow that can destroy our faith.  He makes it look so good, but anything that isn’t the TRUTH is a lie.  No matter how pretty it looks.

Paul prayed that the Christians in Ephesus would be rooted and grounded in love.  He prayed that they would know the bigness of God’s love.  And you know what?  We are also supposed to speak the Truth in that love (Eph 4:18). Love is also the very first fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22) It’s also how we are to behave towards God…We are to LOVE Him with all our heart, soul and mind (Matt. 22:37)

Love is vital to our spiritual health and growth!  We need to make sure we are rooted in it and grounded in it.  And what is Love?  God.  He showed us that by sending Jesus and He gave us that precious Cornerstone for a firm foundation.  We need to learn of Him by dwelling in the Word.

If we don’t read the Scripture and study, meditate and dwell in It, then we are walking around on unsure ground.  We will eventually get caught by the enemy and be wounded.  There is NO doubt about it.  So quit looking and listening for something that satisfies the flesh.  Look for the Truth!

Get up, grab your Bible (be thankful you have One) and sit down and ask God to help you read and understand It.  If you don’t get very far today, get up again tomorrow and read some more.

Get rooted in His love by reading about it and watch where you are walking!

Until Next Time, Lord willing,

Today’s reading: Leviticus 15 / Isaiah 1-2 / Psalm 71 / Mark 5
