Day 3

Have you ever thought about how many people there are living right now?

Billions of people.

Billions of busy lives.

Billions of jobs, schools, relationships, and problems.

Billions of dwellings.

And God sees them all.

“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3

God sees you.

When Mark and I were in language school we learned an invaluable lesson about Brazilian culture:  When you walk into a room, always turn on the lights.  That statement doesn’t mean to literally flip a power switch.  It means to greet people when you walk into a room.  It is considered very rude to enter a building and not speak to everyone.  (So opposite from American culture!). Even at breakfast in a hotel dining area with complete strangers, Brazilians greet those who are already present.  I find this courteous trait very refreshing and it is one aspect of their culture that I absolutely love.

Do you know what happens when, oh, I don’t know, let’s say, a chunky blond American missionary lady, breezes into the church building, gets busy setting up and preparing for Sunday School without greeting everyone already seated in the sanctuary?  The air becomes thick with tension.  Conversations are muted.  Glances are stolen.  The blond missionary senses the eyeballs boring into her back as, much to her changrin, she realizes her misstep and casually walks to the back of the church and begins greeting each family, one by one, all the while mentally berating herself for her social clumsiness.  By the time she makes it to the front of the room the tension has ceased, conversations flow freely and once more, all is right in the world.

Live and learn, people.  Live and learn!  😜

I find it VERY interesting that the first One to “turn on the lights” in this world, showing Himself friendly, was the One Who created it!

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  And God said, “Let there be light….” Genesis 1:1-3a

God set about forming a dwelling place for people with whom He wanted to fellowship.  And He made the first move towards that relationship.  Isn’t that amazing?  And for all the billions and billions of people that have spent their lives on this planet, He offered His love.  And He didn’t keep re-inventing Himself to make Himself relevant for each population.  He is, and has always been, Who He showed Himself to be:  The Almighty Creator, who brought light into this world.  He is, and always has been, available to anyone and everyone that is willing to turn towards Him.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:  if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”  Revelation 3:20

God wants you to know Him.  Yes, out of the billions of people scattered around this world today, at this very second, God is concerned with YOUR life.

God wants you to dwell in Him.  Yes, out of all the billions of places dotting our globe right now, God wants YOU to choose to dwell with Him.

He is waiting.

Is it too much for us to get up out of bed, walk over and “turn on the lights” by speaking to the One already present in the room?

Are we really THAT busy?

Look, if you are like me, you have a lot of stuff to deal with today, tomorrow, next week, next month, etc.

If you are like me, you have a lot of problems on your heart and no immediate solutions.

If you are like me, you need to be dwelling in the presence of the Almighty where you can get the:

1. Perfect Perspective“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

2. Promised Wisdom “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that give them to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  James 1:5

3. Proper Strength“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:  for my strength is mad perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake:  for when I am weak, then am I strong.”  II Corinthians 12:9-10

What is it facing you today?  A new relationship?  A new job? A broken heart? A lost friendship? A crying baby? A funeral? An insurmountable task? A wayward child? A bitter spirit? A dysfunctional family? A doctors appointment? A messed up life? A spiteful enemy? A decision?

No matter what it is, no matter who you are, no matter where you dwell, God is available.

Taking the time to dwell in God’s Word AND applying it to your life each day will help you with 100% of everything, 100% of the time.

The choice lies with you.

Will you turn on the lights?

Until Next Time, Lord willing,

Today’s reading: Genesis 6-8 / I Samuel 4 / Matthew 4
